In 2018, there were 6,507 suicides registered in the UK. Three-quarters of these registered deaths in 2018 were among men (4,903 deaths), which has been the case since the mid-1990s (ONS, 2019). During Mental Health Awareness Week (2020), the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) published an article which confirmed that every working day, two construction workers in the UK take their own life. Construction is the industry with the highest suicide rate in the UK.
Here at McCluskey Surveyors, mental health awareness is a subject close to our hearts and we are committed to supporting our local community. We have therefore nominated The Lions Barber Collective as our charity. This means that we will donate part of our fees each month to The Lions Barber Collective. By supporting us, you will be supporting all those affected by mental health. Thank you.
The Lions Barber Collective
The Lions Barber Collective was established in 2015 by founder Tom Chapman. The collective started as a group of international barbers who came together to help raise awareness for the prevention of suicide. Since then, it has developed to become much more and now campaigns for the awareness of mental wellbeing and suicide prevention as well, believing that the barbershop is a great, safe place for men to talk. The Lions Barber Collective now trains hair professionals across the globe to Recognise, Ask, Listen, and Help those in their chairs. For more information, visit
